Wayne levies pass by wide margins

WAYNE — Three levies on the election ballot in Wayne County passed during Tuesday’s general election, according to unofficial returns counted at the Wayne County Courthouse.

The levy for the county’s fire departments passed with a result of 7,026 to 3,146 votes. The levy for the libraries passed with a result of 6,652 to 3,291 votes. The levy for the Wayne County Health Department passed with a result of 6,679 to 3,326 votes. Each item was voted on separately. Results are unofficial with 36 of 36 precincts reporting.

The excess levy election items were for the fiscal years beginning July 1, 2013; July 1, 2014; July 1, 2015; and July 1, 2016, for the purpose of providing additional funds for the payment of current expenses by the order of the Wayne County Commission, according to wording from the official ballot.

The additional levy in cents for each $100 of assessed value on Class I, Class II, Class III and Class IV property is as follows: $0.85, $1.70, $3.40 and $3.40 for fire departments; $.021, $0.42, $0.84 and $0.84 for libraries; and $0.17, $0.34, $0.68 and $0.68 for the Wayne County Health Department.
