Cheesesteak eatery now open in Milton

Oct. 10, 2013 @ 07:54 AM

MILTON — Sandwich aficionados have a new takeout spot in Milton.

Located off Exit 28 on I-64, Interstate Cheesesteaks is offering a selection of authentic Philadelphia cheese steaks served on Philly’s famous Amoroso’s rolls. The new restaurant opened on Sept. 15. Owner Helena Brown is a veteran of the restaurant business from Florida.

“I used to have a full service restaurant for several years, so I knew what to do,” she said. “I started looking for a place to open and nothing really caught my eye until I saw this one. It was just a matter of getting everything in line for licenses. I acquired the building in August and I had to do a lot of cleaning. I brought in my own equipment, and the ceiling tiles all had to be replaced. I also did some painting. We also did the signs. My son, who works for Google, helped design the logo. My partner and I came here in March of this year. We were in New Jersey for the last five years after my parents fell ill.”

The restaurant features a mixture of different sandwiches such as the original Philly Cheesesteak ($5.95), a Chicken Cheesesteak ($5.95), and a Loaded Cheesesteak with double meat, mushrooms, peppers and onions ($7.95). There are also a variety of cold sandwiches including a Ham and Cheese Hoagie. There’s also a daily special where two customers can dine for $12.99.

Side dishes include French fries ($2.99$3.99) sweet potato fries ($3.99) and Cream Cheese Jalapeño Poppers ($3.99). The menu also includes salads and fresh brewed southern style sweet tea.

“Our Cheesesteaks are all made with shaved steak and there’s a choice of three cheeses, Provolone, Mozzarella and American,” Brown said. “All our vegetables are fresh and our most popular toping is peppers and onions. We also use a combination of white and dark meat for our chicken cheese steaks. Our fries are all fresh cut. I thought the bread was very important. I tried other breads that were here, and I really wanted something like the authentic Philly cheese steaks I grew up with, so I went with Amorosos’s bread.”

Interstate Cheesesteaks is located at 327 Summers Addition in Milton next to Tudor’s Biscuit World. It is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday. Sunday hours are from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Cash, local check and most major credit cards are accepted.
