No. 1 Kitchen opens second Chinese restaurant location

Mar. 08, 2012 @ 12:00 AM

HUNTINGTON -- If you're looking for some Mongolian Beef or General Tso's Chicken, you have a new option along U.S. 60.

No. 1 Kitchen recently opened its second location a few weeks ago and is offering a wide variety of dishes for customers to eat-in, carry out or have delivered. The new location is in the former home of the Pizza Hut at the Eastern Heights shopping center.

"We opened Feb. 15. We acquired the building in December, and it took us about two months to remodel," said Alan Stull, manager of the No. 1 Kitchen. "We gutted everything. We had light fixtures brought in from New York. The owners of the building redid the roof and air condition for us. The kitchen is all new equipment as well."

Owners Lin and Nancy Chen were kitchen managers at the Super China Buffet before they saved up enough money to open their own restaurant, Stull said.

"They eventually had enough money to branch out into a second store. I had worked in a number of different restaurants over the course of 16 years," he said. "My wife and I became good friends with the owners when I left the Super China Buffet and came here."

The restaurant offers a variety of dishes available in pint and quart-sized containers. Most pints are available for under $5, and quarters tend to be around $6 to $9. All items are served with white or fried rice. The menu offers a variety of Lo Mein (soft noodles), Chow Mei Fun (rice noodles), chicken, beef, pork and seafood dishes. Chef's specials include Mongolian Beef ($8.50), General Tso's Chicken ($8.45) and Coconut Shrimp ($10.25). Family Dinners are also available for groups of two, four, six or eight people.

"Both of our cooks are very good, and we can produce almost everything on our menu in 10 minutes or less," Stull said. "We had a soft opening, but the response has been very good. Every day, business has come up."

No 1. Kitchen is located at 4341 U.S. 60 East in Huntingon. It is open seven days a week from 10:30 a.m. until 10:30 p.m. Cash and all forms of major credit cards are accepted at this time. Delivery is free with orders of $10 or more. For carry-out, delivery or more information, call 304-736-5668.
