Fat Patty's Teays Valley location winning fans

Sep. 19, 2012 @ 09:30 PM

Fat Patty's opened its newest location beside the Teays Valley interchange this past Labor Day weekend.

This marks the fourth location of the local chain since the original opened in downtown Huntington in 2007. A second restaurant followed in Barboursville last year, while a third was established in Ashland earlier this year.

Owner Clint Artrip worked in a number of restaurants before deciding to open his own.

"I started working with Clint in February. I'm from the Charleston area, and I heard great things about Fat Patty's from people in Huntington and Barboursville," said David Raines, general manager of the newest Fat Patty's location. Raines worked at the Barboursville location before going to the new restaurant.

The new restaurant is in the building formerly occupied by Shoney's and was in the planning stages for a while.

"This location was actually planned before the one in Ashland," Raines said. "This building's been here a while, so we had to make sure we remodeled it properly."

Turnout for the new restaurant is already very high. Raines thinks the location is a huge positive.

"This location is fabulous in the sense there's very little casual dining around here aside from a few chains," he said. "Teays Valley has needed some good casual dining for a while now. We are located next to the Hampton Inn, which we have a great relationship with."

The new location keeps the same menu as the original including the wide selection of hamburgers. These range from the garlicky "The Vampire Killer" to "The Tex-Mex Patty" topped chili, melted cheese, scallions and sour cream. Most burgers range in price from $6.99 to $7.39. There is also a variety of sandwiches, salads and wraps. The menu features several dinner items including a "Flat Iron Steak" ($10.75) and the Fish & Fries Platter ($8.09).

The restaurant features a full-service bar offering wine, a wide variety of liquor for mixed drinks, plus an assortment of draft and bottled beers including Yuengling, Leinenkugel and Guinness.

While effort has been given to keep the experience between the different Fat Patty's locations the same, there is one thing you won't see in the downtown Huntington store that you will see in Teays Valley -- there is some West Virginia University memorabilia on the walls. Customers can even buy T-shirts with the Fat Patty's logo on them in blue and gold or green and white.

The newest Fat Patty's location is open 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 1 a.m. Sunday. Cash and all major credit cards are accepted. The restaurant is located at 5156 WV 34 in Hurricane off the Teays Valley exit next to Hampton Inn. For take-out orders and more information, call 304-757-5000.
