Huntington Prime prepares to roll out new menu

HUNTINGTON -- One of downtown Huntington's trendiest dining spots is gearing up to roll out a new menu in the next two weeks.

Established in February 2010, Huntington Prime is known for using local ingredients and having an upscale dining experience. The restaurant was opened by owner and Executive Chef Michael Bowe and was eventually expanded to include a rooftop penthouse and piano bar in January 2012. Bowe is a graduate of Marshall University and was certified with the Culinary Institute of America.

"We have tons of stuff that we use locally," he said. "A ton of our produce is local. So is our pork and our New York strip. We occasionally feature a porterhouse from Randolph County. Whatever I can get my hands on as long as it's USDA-stamped, I like to sell. The new menu features a lot of new fun stuff on there. We have fried green tomatoes with local tomatoes, a New York strip from Randolph County and a candied pork loin from Mason County. We have a lot of interesting stuff coming out in addition to our staples. There are some dishes we keep around full time that people know us for. Things like our prime rib, filet mignon and buttermilk fried chicken. We're keeping prime rib here until the place burns down."

The restaurant offers a lunch buffet on weekdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for $12.99. Customers can enjoy a rotating choice of entrees, salads and soups. Huntington Prime also features a Sunday brunch from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

"The lunch buffet is really popular," Bowe said. "It packs the house because it allows people to come in, grab a quick bite of top quality food, and get back to work as fast as they need to. We've also in the summer recently started doing some grilled meat from a chargrill outside."

There is also a full service bar offering a number of signature cocktails including the blueberry lemon martini, the black cherry Manhattan, and a selection of wines.

"We have a pastry chef named Cheri Godfrey who has been here with me since the very beginning," Bowe said. "She makes everything from scratch. No cake box mixes. It's all from flour, sugar, butter and eggs. She makes great cheesecakes. We have red velvet cake, carrot cake and dark chocolate cake."

Huntington Prime is open for lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. Dinner and Piano Bar hours are from 5 to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Sunday Brunch is from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
