New management, monthly parties at Fiesta Bravo

Dec. 06, 2012 @ 12:00 AM

ASHLAND -- With more than 20 years of history, Fiesta Bravo is well established on the Tri-State restaurant scene.

The Tex-Mex establishment was originally adjacent to the Huntington Mall before moving to its new home in the Ashland Town Center in 1989. Earlier this year the restaurant changed management.

"We've been here a little over 20 years now. People love us, and we're still going strong," said Danielle Frye, general manager. "There's a culture and a following at Fiesta Bravo. We did some redecorating earlier this year. We wanted to give the place some friendly party colors. We now have some really colorful centerpieces which give us a fiesta feel. We've also added some decorations for the holiday season.

"With a restaurant that's been around this long you have a lot of great stories," Frye added. "My family held my birthday party at the old location when I was five. We had some customers drive from 90 miles away just to get some chips and salsa."

The restaurant has also started what's called The Full Moon Party. It takes place once a month.

"Every full moon night we do different margarita specials and food specials, plus we also give away prizes," Frye said. "We also decorate the place in special glow-lights. It's super-fun. We also have holiday themed moonlight parties. Last week we had a party where people wore their 'best' tacky holiday sweaters which was a lot of fun. Our next Moonlight Party will be on Dec. 28, so we will probably be doing something for New Year's Eve. We start the party at 4 p.m. and will keep the party going until we close. We'll stay open late as the crowd demands. Live 97.9-FM likes to do shows from our parties."

One of the more popular items at Fiesta Bravo is the Sancho Burrito filled with a choice of beef or chicken, lettuce, diced tomato Monterey Jack and cheddar cheeses and topped with a homemade ranchero sauce ($9.99). Fajitas are available in steak ($11.99), chicken ($11.99), shrimp ($13.99) and vegetarian ($9.99) varieties. There's also the Pollo Funidio chimichanga filled with chicken, cream cheese mixed with green chilies and onions ($10.49).

Lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Everyday there is a different lunch special for $5.99. Happy Hour is 3 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday with half-price appetizer and drink specials.

The restaurant also has a full service bar.

"We like to try to feature a different specialty beer for the season," Frye said. "Right now we have Sam Adams Winter Ale and Blue Moon Winter Abby Ale. In October we had a Newcastle Werewolf for Halloween. We also like to feature different liquor for the season. Right now we have Crown Royal Maple. At our last Moonlight Party we had a cocktail called 'Breakfast in a Cup' which was orange juice with Crown Royal Maple.

"We are always sort of refreshing the bar, keeping it very forward and progressive while keeping tradition in the store," Frye added. "The food itself is our roots, and it's great when done right. That is what we do best now."
