Sweet Frog offers yogurt, more in Cross Lanes

Nov. 08, 2012 @ 10:00 AM

CROSS LANES, W.Va. -- Established in Richmond, Va., in 2009, Sweet Frog was the brainchild of Derek Cha, a deeply religious man of many hats.

In addition to starting a successful chain, Cha is also producing a children's book and a gospel rap album. A devote Christian, Cha's personal motto is "Fully Rely On God" (F.R.O.G) which appears on a good deal of the shop's memorabilia.

The Sweet Frog chain has more than 100 locations in the U.S. and a first international location in South Korea, according to company's Website.

The Cross Lanes location of Sweet Frog opened its doors in April of this year and is the second location in West Virginia following one in the Charleston Town Center. Both shops are owned by husband and wife duo Corey and Ashley Jessee.

"We have traditional yogurt and more sorbet like yogurt," said Megan Whitney, assistant manager of the Cross Lanes Sweet Frog. "We have 16 flavors at a time and over 50 toppings. We keep six of the flavors all year around and we switch the rest. We have some seasonal flavors. We just now sold out of pumpkin pie. It sold very well and we can't keep it in stock. We now have red velvet for the Christmas season and apple pie for Thanksgiving. We are also going to have peppermint. Some of our toppings are seasonal, too. We had candy corn for Halloween and for Christmas we will have crushed candy canes."

Seasonal choices are popular, but the everyday favorites come as no surprise.

"Our most popular flavors are cake batter and cookies and cream," Whitney said. "Cheesecake, strawberry, chocolate, pink lemonade and peanut butter are all really good. We have a good variety of sweet and tart, fruity flavors."

Whitney said it took about two to three months to remodel the location and get it open.
