Tre Fratelli offering Italian fare in Ashland

Dec. 08, 2011 @ 12:00 AM

ASHLAND -- If the name Tre Fratelli sounds somewhat familiar, it might be for a reason.

Co-owners William Robinson and Misael Nunez own a successful Mexican restaurant called Tres Hermanos. Both restaurant's names translate to mean three brothers. The new Italian restaurant opened in Meade Station Plaza in the former home of Rajah's Family Restaurant.

"We knew that the owners of Rajah's wanted to downsize," Robinson said. "They moved to a building next door to open a drive-in called The Lunch Bucket. It took us about two months to redecorate the restaurant, remodel and reopen. We put in some Italian murals and repainted the walls. We also acquired a piece of space that was turned into a gift shop. We are looking into turning it into a smaller Mexican take-out place. We had to pretty much put in all new equipment in the kitchen because we needed a different type of oven and pans to prepare the Italian food."

Tre Fratelli offers a wide array of Italian pastas, pizza, calzones, paninis, salads and seafood. There is also a variety of chicken and veal dishes. Popular dishes include the Spicy Shrimp and Chicken Penne Pasta ($12.99), the Baked Cheese Tortellini ($9.99), and Steak Roma ($12.99). Pizzas have a starting range in price from $7.99 for a 14-inch cheese pizza to $9.99 for an 18-inch. Additional toppings are $1.50 each. Calzones range in price from $6.49 for a cheese to $7.49 for a sausage roll.

"We worked with some chefs in Cincinnati with our food distributor to come up with the menu," Robinson said. "We developed a spicy shrimp salad and a shrimp and apple salad. I'm a big fan of the steak roma, and I'm not a big steak eater. A lot of our seafood is very good. Our baked spaghetti and chicken alfredo are very popular. We are also getting a lot of take-out business for our pizzas. We also have quite a few people coming in after church on Sunday.

"We have a wide variety of vegetarian dishes, and we have a daily special each weekday. Happy hour is from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday," he added.

Tre Fratelli is open from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Sunday hours are from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Cash and all major credit/debit cards are accepted. For carryout orders and more information, call 606-929-5469.
