West Virginia Day, Saturday, June 20, brings a variety of special programs to West Virginia State Parks and forests. To celebrate the Mountain State's birthday, many programs are free of charge and all are open to the public.

Just a few weeks ago, downtown Hunnington (Runnington to some) hosted a record-setting crowd of 513 runners for the West Virginia 5K Run/Walk Championship Race.
At the junction of the Ohio and Kanawha rivers stands this monument which commemorates the frontiersmen who fought and died at the Battle of Point Pleasant. This battle was fought with Chief Cornstalk on Oct. 10, 1774, and is recognized as the decisive engagement in a proactive series of Indian wars. The name "Tu-Endie-Wei" is a Wyandotte word meaning "point between two waters." The monument was erected on Oct. 10, 1909.
