Trout Derby coming up April 23-24 at Shawnee
PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- The Portsmouth Area Jaycees 45th Annual Trout Derby is set for April 23-24 at Turkey Creek Lake at Shawnee State Park.
Shawnee State Park is located at 4404 State Route 125.
The events begin at 5 p.m. Friday, April 23. At 5 p.m. there will be courtesy boat inspections by division of watercraft officers. At 6 p.m. there will be a wildflower hike on the Harry Knighton Trail. Participants should meet at the campstore porch. Quiet time will begin at 10 p.m.
The fishing will begin at 6 a.m. Saturday, April 25. There will also be children's fishing (for ages 12 and under) at Turkey Creek Beach.
The Crazy Creek Crawl will begin at 3 p.m. Join the naturalist for some fun in Turkey Creek. Meet at the campstore porch.
At 5 p.m. Steve Free will give a concert at the campground amphitheater.
Fishing for prize eligibility ends at 6 p.m., and the awards ceremony will start at 6:30 p.m. at the amphitheater. You must be present to win.
In the event of rain, the music and awards ceremony will take place at the Roosevelt Shelter House.
Participants are invited to stay and spend Sunday, April 25, fishing and relaxing in the park.
