Carter Caves State Resort Park hosting a Buffalo Night on Saturday
OLIVE HILL, Ky. — Carter Caves is having its first Buffalo Night on Saturday June 27.
4 to 8:30 p.m. — The program is “Where the Buffalo Roamed — Kentucky.” Learn how hunting big game helped settle Old Kaintuck. Mike and Sue Little, long time reenactors and historians will display original and reproduction items associated with the time when buffalo, elk, deer and beaver were hunted in Frontier Kentucky. These animals helped make Kentucky the land of legend in the late 1700's.
4 to 9 p.m. — Enjoy a buffalo dinner buffet in Tierney’s Cavern Restaurant. Some of the items include Carved Buffalo, Buffalo Ribs, Buffalo Stew, BBQ Buffalo, Fried Chicken, Fried Catfish, Garlic Roasted Mashed Potatoes, Italian Green Beans seasoned with buffalo, corn on the cob, baked beans, chopped turnip greens, seasoned pinto beans, Buffalo chili, Salad Bar & Desserts. Adults are $17.95 & kids eat for $8.95 (not including drink). Come on down and see why they considered Buffalo gold back several hundred years ago.
8:30 p.m. — A living history presentation with Mel Hankla presenting the famous frontiersman, Simon Kenton, a compatriot of Daniel Boone and George Rogers Clark, was a legendary Indian fighter, and had a remarkable career as an explorer and frontiersman. This is a must see historical performance about the famous Simon Kenton. The performance will be held at the park amphitheater located near The Lewis Caveland Lodge.
