Beech Fork State Park announces its weekend schedule
BARBOURSVILLE — Beech Fork State Park announces its weekend schedule for the campground.
On Saturday: At 9 a.m., there will be a Long Branch Trail Trek. Meet outside the camper's corner.
At 11 a.m., there will be the annual bike parade. Campers are asked to decorate their bike in a patriotic fashion for a fun parade around the campground. Meet right outside the camper's corner for instructions.
At 1 p.m., it will be the annual Beech Fork Bell Ringing Ceremony at the campfire ring in honor of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The bell will ring 13 times at 2 p.m.
That ceremony will include an invocation by local pastor Sam Preston, the Pledge of Allegiance, a short speech, patriotic music by Tammy Smith, a reading of selections from the Declaration of Independence and a prayer.
Other Saturday events include a 3 p.m. horseshoe tournament with prizes for first and second place, and from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. a pool party with a greased watermelon dive, belly flop competition, and biggest and smallest splashes.
Sunday events include an interpretative walk at 9 a.m. Meet on the Road to Nowhere (right behind the guard station.
At 10 a.m., there’s Sunday School and church worship at Davis Bowen Church and at 1 p.m., meet at the campers corner to go and check out the hundreds of swallows that have taken up residence on a nearby bridge.
