Greenbo Lake Amphitheater set for many summer concerts, shows

 Here’s a description of some of the exciting things on tap at the Greenbo Amphitheatre this summer:

 
“The Whole Town’s Talking”
Time/Dates: 8 p.m. nightly June 26, 27, 28, 29, & July 3, 5, 6, 2008
Red Lion Theatre Company Presents “The Whole Town’s Talking.”  Admission is $5 per person and $3 for groups of 10 or more seniors/students. The play, set in the glamourous1920’s, focuses on the Simmons family and in particular, Mr. Simmons’ dislike of his daughter Ethel’s college boyfriend.  This comedy in two acts is a great treat for audiences of all ages.  It’s funny, fast-paced, and a marvelous play with all the glitz and glory of a full-scale musical.

 “Bye Bye Birdie”
Time/Dates: 8 p.m. nightly July 10, 11, 12, & 13, 2008
Red Lion Theatre Company Presents “Bye Bye Birdie.”  Admission is $7 per person and $4 for groups of 10 or more seniors/students. The play tells the story of a rock ‘n roll singer, Conrad Birdie, an Elvis Presley type, who’s been drafted into the army.  In one last big publicity stunt, Conrad will bid an All-American teen-age girl goodbye with a kiss.  A satire done with the fondest affection, “Bye Bye Birdie” gives insight into the everyday life that is very much part of us all.

 Wiley Dew Concert
Time/Date: 7 p.m. July 18
Admission is $5 per person and children 12 and under are free. Not your ordinary Mountain/Bluegrass Band, Wiley Dew performs a wide range of diverse musical styles.  The band refers to their music as Folk with an Irish/Appalachian flavor.  Their own original songs add to the blend of music that appeals to broad audiences of old and young alike.

 Genuine Junk Band Concert
Time/Date: 8 p.m. Aug. 8
Admission is $4 per person. Children 12 and under free. Since 1998, this Ashland-based band has been blending roots rock, jazz, blues and jams with lyrics and ideas reflecting their own personal experiences. Their nine-state summer 2008 tour in support of their new album, “Stories from the Hills and Seas,” will bring them to Greenbo Amphitheatre for one concert Aug. 2. With more than 500 shows under their belts, the band is building a reputation as one of Kentucky's most resilient acts. 

 Greenbo Lake State Resort Park is on KY 1, 18 miles north of I-64 from Grayson exit or 7 miles south of U.S. 23 “The Country Music Highway” on KY 1.  Greenbo Lake features the Jesse Stuart Lodge with 36 rooms, Gift Shop, and Anglers’ Cove Restaurant. The park has a 225 acre lake for boating and fishing, tennis courts, 25 miles of multiuse trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding.  Newly renovated campground opens July 1.  Greenbo Amphitheatre features musical concerts and plays during the summer and fall.
