Beech Fork State Park has flurry of activities set for the week
BARBOURSVILLE — Here’s a look at the weekend schedule of events for Beech Fork State Park, located just about 10 miles south of Huntington and Barboursville.
Wednesday
10 a.m. — Meet Fred at the Moxley Branch bathhouse for a 3-4 hour hike on the Mary Davis Trail. This walk encompasses a variety of terrain and an abundance of natural beauty. There are some steep places so wear comfortable shoes and bring water.
1:30 to 3 p.m. — Come to the Boat Docks if you would like to play corn hole, volleyball or horseshoes. See Steve at the boat rental for equipment
4 p.m. — Meet outside the Campers Corner Store and take an easy walk on the Nature Trail. This is a well-maintained trail that features many of our marsh flowers. You do not want to miss this walk when the mallow is in bloom.
Saturday
10 a.m. — Meet at the Moxley Branch bathhouse for an invigorating three-hour hike on the Lost Trail. There is a black vulture's nest along the way and if we are lucky we may get a close-up of this animal. Please wear comfortable shoes and bring water.
2 to 3:30 p.m. — Meet on the grassy area beside Old Orchard bathhouse for
slip-n-slide. Please apply plenty of sunscreen.
4 p.m. — Meet Fred at the Campfire Circle a leisurely hike along Long Branch Trail. This is an easy hike at a great time of days to wildlife.
7 p.m. — Come to the Activity Center for great storytelling with Bugs Stover. This will be a great time for people of all ages.
Sunday
10 a.m. — You are invited to attend services at the Davis-Bowen Church located a couple miles from the park as you head toward Rt. 10. If you pass the Hughes Branch turn-off, you have gone too far. Sunday School is at 10 a.m., and church starts at 11 a.m.
Remember for the hikes, an adult should accompany children under 10 on the trails.
