2012 West Virginia Wildlife calendars now available

Dec. 29, 2011 @ 02:27 PM

SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. – “The 2012 West Virginia Wildlife Calendars are now available for everyone to enjoy,” according to Curtis I. Taylor, chief of the Wildlife Resources Section of the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources.

The cover of this beautiful wall calendar features an outstanding painting of a pair of wood ducks painted by nationally acclaimed artist, Adam Grimm.  This highly detailed, lifelike work of art is only one of the 12 beautiful paintings in this year’s calendar.  Other featured bird paintings include a ruffed grouse in flight, a red-shouldered hawk, a black-capped chickadee and a cardinal.  Also featured are a black bear, Northern green frog, raccoon, monarch butterfly and striped skunk.  The calendar features a rainbow trout and a black crappie for the aquatic enthusiasts. West Virginia’s state mammal, bird and butterfly receive a page each, all in the same edition.

Accompanying each painting is a brief description of the featured animal and the artist’s contact information.  Feature articles include how to determine a fish’s age, the return of river otters, and freshwater mussel restoration in West Virginia streams.  The calendar also contains the 2012 hunting and fishing license fees.

“The calendar is full of interesting daily facts, best fishing days and times, and monthly tips to help you fully enjoy the outdoors,” Taylor said. “Its $10 price tag makes it a terrific bargain and a great holiday gift.  Everyone who enjoys and ventures into the outdoors will want one.”

The 2012 West Virginia Wildlife Calendar is available at WVDNR district offices, department stores, newsstands, convenience marts and food stores throughout the state or through the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources, P.O.
