Stonewall Resort offers Labor Day weekend getaways
WESTON, W.va. — If you are looking for a memorable way to spend time with your family as this summer ends, you’ll love the Stonewall Resort Labor Day weekend. Filled with family fun activities like burlap sack races, water balloon battles and Sundae Creations, it’s designed to end the summer on a high note reminiscent of the days you tell your children about.
Make the most of the weekend by arriving at Stonewall Resort as early as you can on Friday, Aug. 29. The pool will be open all day and rentals for kayaks, canoes, paddleboats and bikes will be available as well. The Sundae Creations bar is open at noon and you can get a supreme sundae with endless toppings for just $3 each. Beginning at 5 p.m., the resort recreation team will have you moving with the burlap sack relay races and corn toss challenge. Later, settle down by the fire for a Read-Aloud session complete with milk and cookies. Play board games in the Birch Room and head to the movies – popcorn provided.
Saturday, Aug. 30, you can pick and choose which activities to share and which to split up to enjoy. In addition to the pool and recreation rental options, there will be a kids’ sack race, water balloon battle, bubble-mania in the pool, face painting, relay races and more.
During the afternoon, the resort will have boat-and-fish excursions where dads and moms plus one child can spend a few hours wetting a line in Stonewall Jackson Lake. If fishing isn’t for you, head to the Birch Room in the resort and build a birdhouse.
Culinary fans won’t want to miss this weekend’s New Appalachian Cuisine class when the Stonewall Resort culinary team demonstrates homemade ice cream making.
Meet Smokey the Bear and explore a real fire truck before you head for the outdoor storytelling session and another movie night.
Sunday, Aug. 31, will include more games and challenges for kids and families. The resort will host an afternoon nature walk and a hayride in the early evening.
Monday, Sept. 1, the outdoor recreation rentals are available through early evening and in the morning competitive guests can enter the three-legged race.
And, if that’s not enough recreation for you, the Stonewall Jackson Heritage Arts & Crafts Jubilee will be going on at Jackson’s Mill in Lewis County. More than 200 craftspeople bring their wares and an equal number of invited musicians take the stage for the four day event.
While there are plenty of scheduled activities at Stonewall Resort, family members can opt for some of the resort’s other popular offerings. Call for a tee-time on the 18-hole Palmer Signature Course that was selected 22nd of the top 100 golf courses in the United States by Golfweek magazine. Or, schedule a relaxing spa treatment, facial, manicure or pedicure at Mountain Laurel Spa.
