Gas prices might be sky high, but area state parks have got your back for some awesome family-fueled holiday weekend getaways that won't slay the budget.
Here's a round up of just a few of the cool state park plans in the region.
Lions and magic
and slides, oh my
Greenbo Lake State Resort Park has a little bit of everything going on for its holiday week that runs July 2 through July 6.
Festivities kick off on Wednesday at the Greenbo Lake Amphitheater with a Steve Free concert. Admission is $5 and children 12 and under free. There will also be Mr. B's Magic Show in the campground shelter house at 8 p.m. Wednesday and walk around table magic in Anglers' Cove Restaurant 6-7:30 p.m.
The Red Lion Theatre Company will begin its performances of "The Whole Town's Talking" at 8 p.m. Thursday at the amphitheater. Admission is $5 per person with groups of 10 or more $3/seniors/students. That show will run July 5 and 6.
July 4, enjoy a day of family fun, hiking/biking/horseback riding, mini golf, fishing, tennis, boating and newly renovated campground.
The amphitheater will present bluegrass music by New Time, 6:30 to 9:45 p.m., leading up to fireworks at 10 p.m. in the beach area at the pool parking lot. The event is free to the public. Patriotic at Paintsville
Paintsville Lake State Park will be getting patriotic as they are hosting the Most Patriotic Campsite contest. Show off your patriotism and celebrate the 4th of July with Paintsville Lake and deck your campsite out with red, white, and blue. Compete with your fellow campers for a chance to win a couple of free nights of camping.

Just eat it at Jenny Wiley
Jenny Wiley State Resort Park near Prestonsburg, Ky., will host special holiday weekend events Friday and Saturday, July 4-5.
Arts and crafts activities will allow you to show your "Independence Day" spirit, with tie-dye T-shirts, key chains, eagle puppets and more. There will be watermelon eating and ice cream eating contests. Saturday, July 5, meet at the campground for a spectacular musical event as the "One Man Band" Tim Michaels performs songs of bluegrass, country and rock 'n' roll. Call 606-889-1790.
WindFest breezes into Canaan Valley July 4-6
Breeze into West Virginia's sublime Canaan Valley for a weekend packed with glorious wind-propelled devices of every size and shape as Canaan Valley Resort hosts WindFest Weekend July 4-6.
Wings Over Washington, one of the nation's preeminent kite hobbyist organizations, will conduct kite building and kite flying workshops at which folks can build and then fly their own kites. Members of the group will also fly some of their own creations, including an enormous 250-square foot Para-kite, an 80-foot scuba diver, and OLO, one of the largest Octopus kites in the world at 130-feet long.
The concert by the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra and the Mountain Stage Band will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday. Guests are encouraged to arrive early and are permitted to bring lawn chairs, blankets and coolers.
Additionally, an Independence Day fireworks display will take place in nearby Thomas, beginning at dark on Friday evening, July 4.

All that jazz on Pine Mountain July 5
Pine Mountain State Resort Park celebrates the country's birthday with some of its original music -- jazz.
Saturday July 5, the park will host a special New Orleans Dinner and Jazz Show featuring the impeccable talents of Julie Davis and Kelly Dow. Take a trip back in time and experience an unforgettable evening of top-notch Jazz. The Jazz Show will be hosted at the park's Whitney Conference Center and fine dining featuring some New Orleans style cuisine will precede the entertainment. Tickets for this must-see show are currently on sale at Pine Mountain State Resort Park. The dinner and show cost only $25 per person.
