Here's a closer look at the program for the Second annual Col. Bill Williams Greenup Heritage Music Festival
WHAT: A two-day festival with national-act country, bluegrass and blues
WHERE: Greenbo Lake State Resort Park's new $650,000 amphitheater
FRIDAY NIGHT: On Friday Aug. 15, the program features "An Evening of Blues" starting at 6 p.m. Larry Whitt, the Blues Cruisers and da Mud Cats will warm up the crowd for the headline act, Teeny Tucker, starting at 8:30 p.m.
HOW MUCH: Admission is $8 per person ($5 for seniors). Children 12 and under are free. There is no reserved seating; bring lawn chairs and/or blankets.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Saturday Aug. 16, the Heritage Music Jubilee will roll on from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m., with a two-hour dinner break from 5-7 p.m. Afternoon performers will include Sasha Collette and Gospel Tide, while evening performances will feature the Gospel Enforcers and Ken Mellons with the America's Bluegrass Band.
HOW MUCH: Saturday admission is $10 ($5 for seniors). Children 12 and under are still free.
GETTING THERE: Greenbo Lake State Resort Park is on Ky. 1, 18 miles north of I-64 from the Grayson exit, or 8 miles south of U.S. 23 (the Country Music Highway).
WHAT ELSE: Greenbo Lake features a lodge, gift shop and the Anglers' Cove Restaurant. The park's 225 acre lake is ideal for boating and fishing. There are rentals of pontoons, canoes, fishing boats and more. Other features include 25 miles of multi-use trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding. There's also a campground with 18-hole putt-putt golf and much more.
GET INVOLVED: The Col. Bill Williams Greenup Heritage Music Festival is inviting area artisans to show and sell their work Saturday, Aug. 16, at Greenbo Lake State Resort Park. Tables will be set up under tents and there will be no fee charged to the artisans. The festival begins at 1 p.m. and artisans should be there by noon. SPONSORS: Sponsored by Kentucky State Parks and the Kentucky Department of Travel, the Greenup County Growing with the Arts Advisory Council along with other private sponsors. Tickets can be purchased at the amphitheater gate. The concession stand will be open for business.
