Regional productions of dramas, comedies and musicals heading outside
Get lost cicadas, there are showtunes and historical dramas ready to rattle the leaves from Prestonsburg, Ky., to Beckley, W.Va.
From Huntington Outdoor Theatre to Jenny Wiley to Tecumseh, the hills are coming alive with the sounds of music and history.
Here's a look at some of the summer theater shows in our region where you can enjoy the great outdoors and experience a great slice of live theater.
H.O.T. (Huntington Outdoor Theatre)
WHAT: "Romeo and Juliet:" Huntington Outdoor Theatre presents the Shakespearean classic "Romeo and Juliet" featuring modern love songs and Cole Porter's comedic hit, "Anything Goes." A pre-show and a children's pre-show happens before the regular show performances. Shows run weekends: July 11-13, 18-20, 25-27.
WHERE: Ritter Park Amphitheater, located in the hills of Ritter Park above the Ritter Park Rose Garden and Tennis Center.
OPENING NIGHT: July 11
HOW MUCH: Admission is $16 for adults, $14 for seniors (65 and older) and children ages 5-12. Children under 5 are admitted free.

Greenbo Lake State Resort Park
WHAT: A new theater season with Red Lion Theatre Company presenting "The Whole Town's Talking" (June 26-29 and July 3,5,6); "Bye Bye Birdie," July 10-13.
WHERE: Greenbo Lake State Resort Park's new amphitheater near Greenup, Ky. About 40 minutes northwest of Huntington.
OPENING NIGHT: 8 p.m. Thursday, June 26.
HOW MUCH: Admission is $5 and $3 (for groups of 10 or more ) for "The Whole Town's Talking," and $7 and $4 for groups for "Birdie."

West Virginia Theatre at Grandview
WHAT: Four shows including "Hatfields and McCoys," (written by West Virginia Music Hall of Fame member, Billy Edd Wheeler), "Honey in the Rock," (Civil War history and start of West Virginia), "Cinderella" and "Disney's High School Musical."
WHERE: Beckley, W.Va., about two-and-a-half hours southeast of Huntington at the Grandview Amphitheater inside the National Park Service's Grandview Area at the New River Gorge National River.
OPENING NIGHT: June 10.
HOW MUCH: Adults $16, Seniors and AAA members, $14 and children: (under 12) $8 or free per child sitting on a lap.

Jenny Wiley Theatre
WHAT: "Honky Tonk Angels," (June 13-Aug. 13); "The Wizard of Oz" (June 26-Aug. 16), "Little Red: Life in the Hood," (June 21 - Aug.5); "A Chorus Line" (July 11- Aug. 15).
WHERE: About an hour and a half south of Huntington. Located off of U.S. 23, The Country Music Highway in Prestonsburg, Ky., at Jenny Wiley State Resort Park.
OPENING NIGHT: June 13 for "Honky Tonk Angels."
HOW MUCH: For "Honky Tonk Angels," "Wizard of Oz," and "A Chorus Line" (Show only): Adults (19-59) $21; Seniors (60+) $19; Youth (Under 19) $13 for Honky Tonk Angels (Luncheon Matinee or Dinner Theatre), all tickets are $35. For "Little Red: Life in the Hood" Adults & Seniors $12; Youth $8.

Aracoma Story, Inc. at Chief Logan
WHAT: "The Aracoma Story" (June 17-21, 24-28, July 1-5, and "Annie," (July 29-Aug. 2, Aug. 5-9, 12-16).
WHERE: Chief Logan Resort State Park in Logan, W.Va.
OPENING NIGHT: 8:30 p.m. June 17.
HOW MUCH: $11 and $7 for children 12 and under. Discounts for groups of 12 or more.

WHAT: Jean Battlo's "Terror Of the Tug," a play about the coal mining wars in southern West Virginia runs July 25-26 and Aug. 1-2.
WHERE: McArts Amphitheater, U.S. 52 in Welch, W.Va. (about three hours south of Huntington).
OPENING NIGHT: 8 p.m. Friday, July 25

Tecumseh Outdoor Drama
WHAT: "Tecumseh," (June 6 through Aug. 30).
WHERE: Sugarloaf Amphitheater just north of Chillicothe, Ohio. About an hour and a half north of Huntington just off of U.S. 23.
OPENING NIGHT: Friday, June 6.
HOW MUCH: Monday-Thursday: Adult tickets are $19.95, Child (10 & under)-$12.95. Friday and Saturday: Adults, $21.95 and Child (10 & under), $14.95. Not recommended for children age 6 and younger due to some violent content and loud battle scenes.
