LAVALETTE. W.Va. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Beech Fork Lake has just opened the Stowers Branch Beach Recreation Area for the 2008 recreation season.
The beach will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. through Labor Day.
Amenities include a tot lot and swing set, 12 picnic tables with charcoal grills and a wading area for children. There is also a 12 x 32-foot picnic deck with five tables and cookers.
The deck is available first come-first served or may be reserved for the day for $25 by calling the National Recreation Reservation Service at 1-877-444-6777 or by visiting www.recreation.gov.
Daily beach use fees are $1 with a $4 maximum per carload.
Children under age 12 are admitted free of charge and adult supervision is recommended. Lifeguards are not available.
For $30, you can purchase an Annual Day Use Pass which allows use of the beach as well as other Corps of Engineers operated recreation areas that charge a day use fee.
The pass is valid for a full year from the month of purchase and available at the Maintenance Building across the dam from Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Visitor Center is currently closed for repairs.
