Band films video with fans and then rocks out at arena
HUNTINGTON -- They came, they saw, they rocked and flickered lighters and cell phones for what looks to be the last concert of the 2008 year at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena.
A rowdy crowd of 4,200 people stood on the floor and in the seats around the arena for Thursday night's concert featuring headliners Staind with Seether, Papa Roach and State of Shock, one of the top Canadian rock bands.
Staind's faithful got an early afternoon moment with the band as fans from around the region were taped in front of the arena singing the band's song "The Way I Am."
Staind is filming fans at several locations on this tour for its new video. The band sent word of the shoot through a MySpace invite.
Amanda Weiss, marketing director at the arena, said the band told the arena Thursday it would be doing the short shoot that took place about 4:30 p.m.
"It's neat that they did that here and that they linked it all up through MySpace," Weiss said.
Weiss said the arena continues to utilize the Web using MySpace, FaceBook and the Big Sandy Insider e-mail group that has more than 18,000 people on its e-mail list giving them the first chance at tickets including the May 16 arena show for Comedy Central star Jeff Dunham.
Those tickets went on sale Thursday online, and Friday to the general public.
