In like a lion
Here's a closer look at the Lions Tri-State Arts and Crafts Festival.
WHAT: One of the region's largest arts and crafts shows, featuring handcraft vendors from all over the Tri-State and beyond. Santa Claus will make an appearance Saturday and Sunday.
SPECIAL GUEST: This year's show highlights Huntington native wildlife artist Chuck Ripper. One of the premier wildlife artists in the United States, Ripper's work has been shown everywhere from L.L. Bean covers, to hundreds of stamps for the U.S.P.S. and the National Wildlife Federation.
WHERE: Big Sandy Superstore Arena, 3rd Avenue, in Huntington.
WHEN: 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6; and noon to 5 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 7.
HOW MUCH: $5 per person, $4 for seniors and free for kids under 12.
ENTERTAINMENT SCHEDULE: Friday: Cabell Midland H.S. Show Choir at 6 p.m. and CMHS Jazz Band at 7 p.m. Saturday: Huntington High School Jazz Band at 10 a.m., Spring Valley Jazz Band at 11 a.m., Zumba Demonstration at 1 and 2 p.m., HHS Show Choir at 3 p.m., Michael Rey Puppet Show at 4:30 p.m.. Sunday; Backyard Dixie Jazz Stompers at 12:30 p.m.
DID YOU KNOW? The show is sponsored by the Lesage and Southeast Huntington Lions Clubs, and all proceeds are returned to the community in charitable contributions and services.
HEALTH FAIR: St. Mary's Medical Center is sponsoring a free health fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. There are seven different screenings including cholesterol, stroke analysis, blood sugar, body mass index, glaucoma, osteoporosis and sun damage. Get a health screening in the lobby and get a reduced admission to the show.
SUNDAY MILITARY REMEMBRANCE: The show will let all World War II vets in for free on Sunday. There will be a special Pearl Harbor Day Remembrance in the lobby at 2 p.m. Sunday as well.
