From Bob the Builder and Garrison Keillor to music from as far away as West Africa and Dublin, the Paramount Arts Center announces its 2008-2009 series that will keep the Tri-State entertained from October through April.
"Ticket buyers will definitely find this year's season intriguing," said Kathy Setterman, executive director for the arts center in a release. "They will have the opportunity to discover the Celtic Crossroads or explore dance on The Ivory Coast. They can experience New York without ever leaving town through a Tony Award-winning Broadway smash hit like ‘The Pajama Game,’ ‘The Drowsy Chaperone’ or ‘Ain’t Misbehavin’, which stars ‘American Idol’s’ Ruben Studdard and Frenchie Davis. Or they might share ‘This Moment in Time’ with Engelbert Humperdinck and someone special."
One thing new this season, is something old.
Earlier this year, the Paramount hosted its first movie since the early 1970s, and the 2008-2009 series contains an independent film series that will take place on special Sunday afternoons.
The Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers, presented in partnership with the Southern Arts Federation and sponsored by 100.5 WKEE & B97.1, will showcase five indie movies that will be shown and include a Q&A by the filmmaker.
Movie showings will start with “Ripe for Change,” on Sunday, Sept. 21, and will continue monthly through April.
Admission will be $40 for all six films or $8 a film.
There is also a film that is part of the regular series as the original 1925 silent film, “The Phantom of the Opera,” will be accompanied by the Kentucky Symphony for a special, pre-Halloween concert on Saturday, Oct. 18.
Season tickets for the three series (Broadway, Discovery and Entertainment Series) are on sale now for Paramount’s current chair-holders through Aug. 11.
Past series buyers may purchase tickets Aug. 12-15, and new series buyers who want to purchase at least one full series for the new season can purchase tickets Aug. 18-21.
On Sept. 2, all shows go on sale to the public for anyone who wants to purchase one or more individual shows.
However, please note that customers can call the Paramount Box Office to be placed on waiting lists for both the series and individual tickets. The waiting lists will then be processed just before tickets go on sale on Sept. 2.
For tickets, call 606-324-3175.
