READ ALL ABOUT IT: Charlotte McCoy: 'Ladybug Girl and Bumblebee Boy' good for younger readers

June 25, 2009 @ 12:00 AM

As a companion to "Ladybug Girl," "Ladybug Girl and Bumblebee Boy," by David Soman and Jackie Davis, is a hit.

In this story, a little girl named Lulu is going to the park where she meets up with her friend Sam.

They can't seem to agree on what game to play, so Lulu asks Sam if he has ever played ladybug girl. Sam becomes bumblebee boy. He and ladybug girl take on all the monsters that have appeared around the park -- the big hairy monsters and the big giant robots.

After they have saved the day, ladybug girl and bumblebee boy have a parade on the bouncy dinosaurs. They are having so much fun that other kids want to come join in their game.

They figure out by working together they have more fun and create new games to play. Ultimately, they save the playground with only the use of their imagination.

This is a children's picture book that is currently on the New York Times best seller list. This book is great for kids from the ages of 3 to 8.

Charlotte McCoy is an employee at Empire Books and News at Pullman Square in downtown Huntington.
