Camden Park continues its opening weekend today
HUNTINGTON — The Spider leg’s have been greased, everything’s been painted, the Canna lilies are coming up and the stuffed Sponge Bob Square Pants’ have been hung by the Midway.
It’s time for the 105th season of Camden Park to begin.
The family-run, family-fun park located just five miles west of Huntington along U.S. 60 is open at 11 a.m. today.
The historic amusement park, which has more than 30 rides and attractions, will now be open 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays in May. It will be open daily starting Memorial Day weekend.
Special music guest Southern Ohio singer/songwriter Steve Free plays at 2 p.m. today.
A frequent visitor to the park and a hard-traveling troubadour, Free heads back to Camden Park for a 2 p.m. show on Mother’s Day (May 11). Moms will get in for $1 when someone else pays general admission.
Regular May hours are 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, May 3-4, 10-11, 17-18, and Memorial Day weekend May 24-26.
The park, which typically draws visitors from more than 40 states in a year, has a big group from Virginia coming in this weekend.
“We pull from pretty far away,” Boylin said. “We’re getting people from all over Virginia and North Carolina because the prices are so much cheaper than they are down there. Another big thing is we don’t have the long lines of a big theme park so you can ride stuff over and over again.”
