Here's a look at some other big festivals this weekend:
Greenup Old Fashion Days: In downtown Greenup, Ky., the fest runs through Saturday and features an antique car show, a W-Hollow bus tour, apple butter making, flea market, six-mile run, square dancing, country and bluegrass music, a parade and more. Call Greenup County Tourism, 606-324-5111.
Oktoberfest Huntington: For the fourth straight year, the Clear Channel radio stations roll out the party and the barrels at Pullman Square for the annual Oktoberfest that runs 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The day gets kicked off early with a 9 a.m. to noon Tour de CASA, a bike tour of Huntington, sponsored by the Court Appointed Special Advocates (for Children). The actual Oktoberfest on the Square gets started in style with an 11 a.m. chicken dance, those dances continue on the hour every hour or whenever you feel the spirit. Music includes the ZZ German Brass Band from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There's also a pet costume contest at 1 p.m., as well as beer chugging and brat eating, beer barrel races and a beer stein relay. AU II: The Appalachian Uprising just celebrated its seventh year as the area's fastest growing new grass festival, and Steve Cielec and the good folks at the Eden Valley Farm are taking the party into the fall with the Appalachian Uprising II, a smaller music fest and campout that raises money for the Ronald McDonald House. Gates open Friday, Oct. 3, and music begins at noon Saturday with Melvin Goins, ETA, Dana Romanello, Stephen Salyers, Stone Avenue, Genuine Junk Band, Mothman and others. Hookah in the Hills: Oct. 3 and 4, featuring two nights and two sets by festival hosts ekoostik hookah, as well as Chicago Afrobeat Project, Papadosio, Mike Perkins, the Davisson Brothers Band, Joe Prichard Band, Polka Floyd and others at Poston Lake Music Park in Guysville, Ohio, just outside of Athens. Tickets are $40 advance for a weekend pass or $30 for Saturday only. Kids under 15 get in free. There's free parking and camping. Go online at www.hookahinthehills.com.
October Sky Festival: NASA shuttle astronaut Tom Jones is one of the featured guests this year at the October Sky Festival that runs Saturday, Oct. 4, in Coalwood, W.Va. Now in its 10th year, the festival celebrates best-selling author Homer Hickam and three other members of the original "Rocket Boys" made famous by his memoirs and the movie titled, "October Sky." Enjoy rocket launches, moon rock and other artifacts as part of an official NASA display, guided trolley tours, coal mining museum displays, a parade, food, music and fun. Battle Days: The Battle of Point Pleasant Memorial in downtown Point Pleasant Friday-Sunday, Oct. 3-5. Commemorates the Battle of Point Pleasant which occurred on Oct. 10, 1774 between Virginia militiamen and the Shawnee Tribe led by Chief Cornstalk. Features include an art show at Fort Randolph Terrace, a lantern tour with historical re-enactors at Tu-Endie-Wei State Park on Friday night, and a Battle Days Parade on Saturday in downtown Point Pleasant.
