A look at upcoming festivals
Feasting On Fests
Here's a look at just a few of the cool festivals happening this weekend and next in Huntington and around the region.
Great Bowls of Fire Chili Fest and Cook-Off: Starts at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Paramount Arts Center parking lot. A sanctioned International Chili Society cook-off with chili cooks from around the region. Enjoy kids games, live music, and much more. All proceeds go to the Paramount Womens Association. Rhythm and Brews at the V Club: 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, the Huntington Rhythm and Brews Festival with microbrewed beer from at least five breweries from around the region including Great Lakes Brewing Company. Hosted by the Greater Huntington Homebrewers Association. Also live music by Atlanta blues/rock guitarist, Chris Duarte and Bluestone, as well as The Carpenter Ants, Luke Jive Talker and The Loft (from Nashville). Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door, includes craft brews and food. For tickets, call (304) 525-2183.
Fall Festival: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, 15th Street and 9th Avenue Huntington. Games, food, arts and crafts vendors and more.
West Virginia RoadKill Cook-off: The 14th Annual RoadKill Cook-off in Marlinton, W.Va. Anything goes as long as the main ingredient is an animal commonly found along the road. You can taste some very unique dishes. The cooking begins at 11 a.m.; the judging begins at 2 p.m.; and the tasting beings when you work up the nerve. Call (800)336-7009.
Oktoberfest at Pullman Square: Noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, with German food, beer and music. Activities include: beer barrel races, beer chuggin, brat eating and beer stein relay. West Virginia Pumpkin Festival: Oct. 4-7, at the West Virginia Pumpkin Park in Milton. Live music, vendors, games, educational exhibits, huge arts and crafts tent with more than 80 vendors and more.
