Here's a look at some of the other upcoming food fests in the region:
Tomato Festival: Third annual Tomato Festival at Central City Market at 7 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9. Local farmers selling their goods and a variety of taste tests and contests throughout the morning. Prizes for largest tomato and ugliest tomato will be awarded as tomato sampling and recipe swapping goes on throughout the morning. Anyone is invited to submit a salsa concoction for the competition by simply contacting the market and registering. Call 304-525-1500.
Food, Wine and Jazz Festival: The ninth annual Food, Wine and Jazz Festival runs Aug 8-10, at Snowshoe Mountain at Soaring Eagle Lodge. National Pasta Cook-off: Aug. 23, in Clarksburg, W.Va. Open to all amateur and professional cooks. Call 304-622-7314.
West Virginia Honey Festival: Aug. 23-24, Parkersburg, W.Va. Promotes the honey industry with a live bee beard, kids games, crafts and more.
Blues, Brews and BBQ: Aug. 29-30, at Snowshoe Mountain in Snowshoe, W.Va. Call 877-441-4FUN.
Chilifest: Saturday, Sept. 20, along 3rd Avenue and Pullman Square in downtown Huntington. West Virginia's chili championship where chili cooks from around the region battle for $1,500 first prize for red chili and also battle for cash and Blenko trophies for best salsa and chili verde. Swinefest: Swinefest 2008 is scheduled for Wednesday through Saturday Sept. 10-13, in Guyandotte. The event features live music, wrestling, a pig roast, dunking booth, arts and crafts booths, food vendors, a fishing contest and horse-drawn carriage rides to Guyandotte historic sites. Apple Butter Festival: The first Huntington Homecoming Apple Butter Festival will take place Saturday and Sunday Oct. 18-19, at Harris Riverfront Park in downtown Huntington.
