RIPLEY, W.Va. — WSAZ Newschannel 3 anchor Susan Nicholas was one of several Cabell County authors who were recognized at a recent statewide writer’s meeting.
The West Virginia Writers' Association recently recognized several Cabell County authors for outstanding work during the group's 30th annual conference at Cedar Lakes in Jackson County, West Virginia. There were more than nine hundred entries submitted by writers from several states.
In the children's books category, Carol Brodtrick won first place for her story entitled, "Cat." In the long poetry division, Llewellyn McKernan received third place for her entry, "Turning Over a New Leaf." In the emerging writers poetry category, Kelly Renee Broce was awarded third place for her work, "What I Know of Nanking."
Nicholas won first place in the peoples choice division with her children's story, "The Suit."
The conference was held June 13-15 in Ripley at the Cedar Lakes Conference Center.
