Spotlight on local music: Dunamis Praise Band

The Herald-Dispatch

Dunamis Praise Band is made up of four Christian guys from West Virginia and Ohio. We came together early last year with the intention of making a "fun band." We all had our fill of being a part of bands, who thought they were really going to "make it big" and that really took themselves too seriously. All of us are in our late 30s and early 40s and are settled down with families and we all know the reality of being a musician, with no fantasies of fame or fortune. So our only motivation is a heart for ministry. We play mostly what is referred to as "praise and worship" music, only with a rock edge. We also play a few original songs as well. "Dunamis" is Greek for "dynamic" or "power," and our name fits the type and style of music we play.

MEMBERS: Mark Kuhn, lead singer and guitars; Chris Deem, lead guitar; Rod Smith, bass; Jay Walker, drums.

BASED IN: Huntington

UPCOMING PERFORMANCES: Dunamis will be in concert at 7 p.m. June 6, at New Life Church in Huntington. You can find out more about Dunamis and their upcoming performance schedule at www.dunamispraiseband.com or www.myspace.com/dunamispraiseband.
