Marshall Artists Series hosts culinary fundraising event

April 22, 2008 @ 08:54 PM

HUNTINGTON -- Tickets are still available for a few events during Marshall Artists Series' exciting culinary fundraising event, Kindred Spirits: A Celebration of Food and Drink.

Many classes and events quickly sold out this season, but a limited number of spaces still remain for a couple upcoming events. Class sizes are limited.

Here are the remaining events.

A Picture and a Pinot: 7 p.m. April 25 -- At the historic Keith-Albee Performing Arts Center, sit back with a glass of Pinot Noir and enjoy the hit movie "Sideways." This movie shot Pinot Noir into stardom as it followed the wine tasting trip of Jack and Miles to salute Jack's final days as a bachelor. The mismatched pair soon find themselves drowning in wine, women, and mid-life crisis. $25 per person.

On the Run: 7 p.m. April 28 -- Janet McCormick, author of the new cookbook, "10-Minute Meals" and owner of the Tea Room Café, will demonstrate preparation of healthy 10-minute dinners, desserts, and appetizers using fresh, whole ingredients. Time may be minimized and sacrificed, but taste and presentation never are. Come hungry. $50 per person. At The Tea Room Café, located in the Finishing Touch Gallery across from Three Gables Surgery Center, Proctorville.

Scarborough Fair: 7-9 p.m. April 29 -- Essences of parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme will float through the room as renowned local caterer, Sharon Pressman, demonstrates the use of aromatic fresh herbs, straight from your garden, in the creation of appetizers, salads, and desserts. $50 per person. At Creative Kitchens, 1242 Fifth Ave., Huntington.

Starters & Finishers with Mark Phillips -- A Food & Wine Pairing: 7-9 p.m. May 2 -- Mark Phillips, host of the PBS special, "Enjoying Wine with Mark Phillips," takes your palate on a journey you'll never forget. Using humor and a down-to-earth approach to wine education, Phillips will teach you the difference between Merlot and Bordeaux, and everything in between. Learn about wine pairings and cuisine, as well as the modern, progressive view of wine tasting as he brings wine to life. $125 per person. At the Touma Medical Museum, 314 Ninth St. Plaza, Third Floor, Huntington.

Whites, Reds & Thoroughbreds -- A Kentucky Derby Party and Wine Festival Event: 1-7 p.m., May 3 -- Put on your hat and pick up your mint julep. The Kentucky Derby is a national tradition, and this year's 134th annual Derby is sure to make a splash with wine enthusiasts as it incorporates the thrill of the race with charm of the grape. Kick off this exciting day from 1-2:15 p.m. as special guest Mark Phillips teaches you the ins and outs of tasting wine like a pro. Then test your new knowledge from 2:30-4:30 p.m. at the wine festival and silent auction. From 4:30-7 p.m. get your own Millionaire's Row experience as you join in the activities during the Derby party. Participate in the hat parade, enjoy a Derby inspired dinner, dance to a live band, and watch the fastest two minutes in sports as the Derby fills the big screen at the historic Keith-Albee Performing Arts Center. All day tickets $75 per person.

No one under 21 will be admitted.
