A closer look at this year's Spooktacular

October 22, 2008 @ 09:52 PM

Here's a closer look at the 10th annual Spooktacular at Camden Park

WHAT: The 10th annual Spooktacular with more than 20 rides and attractions including the Haunted Train, the Terror Trail Walk-Through, as well as the historic dark ride, The Haunted House.

WHERE: Camden Park, located five miles west of Huntington along U.S. 60. Turn at the sign of the happy clown.

WHEN: 6 to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays in October, and Saturday, Nov. 1.

HOW MUCH: Tickets to Spooktacular is $18 for people ages 3 and older. Children under three are admitted for free. The park also distributed coupons for free children's admission to area schools. There are coupons on Camden Park's Web site, www.camdenpark.com.

GET TIX: Call 304-429-4321 or visit www.camdenpark.com.

GET IN LINE FIRST: The first 50 kids through the line get treats during Spooktacular.

WHAT ELSE: Also open will be the brand-new 18-hole West Virginia Adventure Mini-Golf.

DID YOU KNOW?: The nearly 30-acre historic park is home to a cemetery, of sorts. Back behind the Flying Scooters is a Native American burial mound. The flat-topped conical burial mound is the largest mound in the Huntington area, and is third in size in West Virginia. It has not been excavated and is considered by many historians to have been built by the Adena people between 1000 B.C. and A.D. 1.

IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD: While you're west of Huntington at Camden Park, you may as well roll further west to Kenova, home to Ric Griffith's nationally-known Pumpkin House on Beech Street. It's home to more than 3,000 carved pumpkins that will be lit nightly through Halloween.

WHAT TO WEAR: Spooktacular guests can wear costumes. Costumes will be checked at the gate to make sure they are safe for rides. Do not wear capes, and masks may have to be removed on some rides. Guests are asked not to scare or touch other guests.
