Pancho’s offers Mexican favorites, more
BARBOURSVILLE — Named for the famed Mexican revolutionary Pancho Villa, Pancho’s Southwest Grill was the brainchild of Todd Bowen, a businessman in Point Pleasant, W.Va.
The restaurant recently opened in Barboursville with a limited training menu before hosting its grand opening with a full menu on Wednesday, April 10, as well as live acoustic music. The new restaurant features Mexican favorites like fajitas and chimichangas as well as American fare like streaks, burgers, barbecue spare ribs and more.
“We opened the first Pancho’s in Point Pleasant after the Bennigan‘s closed about three years ago,” said Bowen, who owns several businesses in Point Pleasant. “Since then we expanded the menu to include more ‘North of the Border’ items to accommodate the entire market. We use top-of-the-line ingredients. We cut our own steaks in-house. You can’t ask for a fresher steak. Our Mexican is 100 percent authentic. We do everything from scratch like you would at an authentic Mexican restaurant but with premium ingredients. It’s like a Mexican restaurant and a Texas Roadhouse-type steakhouse put together.
Bowen said he’s had the location in Barboursville about four months.
“It took longer than expected to renovate,” he said. “We put in a new bar, put a much larger kitchen in, and tidied up a lot of structural issues. We spent almost three weeks just on the outside.
“I actually grew up here, and it‘s good to be in this location by a heavy hitter like our neighbor (Outback Steakhouse),” added Bowen. “Our focus is to deliver something people can‘t get in a restaurant right now. We‘ve had a lot of people say ‘now I can get my Mexican food and my husband who doesn‘t like Mexican can have his steak.’”
On the Mexican side of the menu Pancho’s offers “Enchiladas Sol” ($13.99) filled with chicken and topped with queso, salsa verde, lettuce, pico del gallo, sour cream, plus cheddar cheese and “Fajita Pancho’s” ($14.99) stuffed with steak, chicken, shrimp, chozizo sausage, grilled peppers, onions and tomatoes. The “North of the Border” menu features the half-pound Angus Burger ($8.99) and the Del Rio Sirloin ($13.99). The restaurant also features a full service bar with a mix of cocktails including a “Mothman Margarita.” There’s also a variety of desserts including Mexican favorites like fried ice cream and churros.
“I’ve run several restaurants, and I have several different businesses. Pancho’s is probably the most fun,” Bowen said. “It’s a very unique business. We are going to play some music from both sides of the border including rock and country.”
Pancho’s Southwest Grill is located at 3419 U.S. 60 East in Barboursville in the former home of Famous Dave’s. It is open from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. from Monday until Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Sunday hours are from noon to 9 p.m. Cash and all major credit cards are accepted.
