Downtown eatery offering lighter lunchtime dishes

Nov. 28, 2012 @ 09:37 PM

HUNTINGTON -- While Chef Jason's Du Soir Bistro opened this past spring, it now shares space with a new daytime restaurant simply called "Le Bistro."

Chef Jason's Du Soir offers a variety of upscale dishes and an extensive wine menu, while Le Bistro has a host of dishes for those on the go including soups, salads and sandwiches. Le Bistro opened in mid September.

"Our daytime chef, Brittany Barker, sat down with the owner Pam Abraham when we designed the lunch menu. We included a few items from the evening time," said Robert Crickard, manger of Le Bistro. "We collaborated and tried to work it out so it would be the best for our customers."

"We wanted something that would appeal to a larger crowd in the downtown area," Barker said. "Our lunchtime menu is a bit less expensive, but it's still high quality. Everything is fresh every day."

Le Bistro offers a BLT made with herb roasted turkey, hickory smoked bacon, avocado and cilantro mayonnaise served on sourdough bread ($9). It comes with sides of cranberry chutney and sage dressing.

There's also the Farmer's Market Meat Loaf sandwich on sourdough bread served with a pommes salade ($10).

The restaurant also has a variety of hot plates for lunch including "The Leftover" ($9) featuring roast herbed turkey, sage dressing, whipped potatoes, gravy and a cranberry chutney.

Two hot plates have been carried over from Chef Jason's Bistro De Jure: Chef Jason's Crab Cake ($12) and Chef Jason's Signature: turkey gumbo, rice and cornbread ($7).

"We're looking to expand the menu next week with some more hot plates," Barker said. "The new menu is still going to be French influenced, but simple and nice."

The restaurant's remodeling took place back in the spring, but a few more changes occurred when the former deli in that location closed this fall.

"During the transfer over from the deli we shut down during the daytime for two days while we prepared the new restaurant," Crickard said. "We wanted our diners to have the best experience. We pride ourselves on our look and our quality of service."

In the evenings, Chef Jason's Du Soir Bistro continues to offer a variety of gourmet French and American inspired dishes created by Chef Jason Oesterreicher. These include Risotto ($15), Grilled Eggplant Parmesan ($24) and Rack of Lamb ($30). The dinner menu also includes a variety of seafood including Sea Bass ($27) and Herb Dijon Crusted Salmon ($26).

Le Bistro and Chef Jason's Du Soir Bistro are located at 905 3rd Ave. in downtown Huntington. Le Bistro is open from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
