Husson's serving New York-style pizza
HUNTINGTON — Founded by Nick Husson in 1978, Husson’s Pizza is a regional chain of 10 pizzerias which expanded into Huntington in 2005.
In addition to pizza the restaurant also serves submarine sandwiches, salads, Calzones, Stromboli and some unique items like the “Pizzadilla,” a pizza served in a tortilla.
“I’d describe our pizza as being like a New York Pizza with chewy crust and a sweet savory crust,” said Andrew Gornic, manager of the Huntington Husson’s location. “You can order thinner crust or a thicker ‘Sicilian’ pizza but I would say our most popular pizza style is like a New York Pie. We always have a two-slice combo which is perhaps our most popular item, especially at lunch time. We have a variety of specialty pizzas too. I think our gourmet chicken pizzas are great. My favorite is the sweet Thai pepper chicken pizza. It’s tangy, it’s a little spicy, it’s all the words. “ While the chain is known online for it’s quirky ad campaign featuring a puppet named ‘Mick the Chef,’ the chain is now branching out with a new mobile app. Available for the iPhone and Android mobile devices.
“We introduced the app in the last couple of months and it’s pretty great,” Gornic said. “There’s always a special on the app every single day. You can get free drink or 20% off right now. It also has a menu, coupons and links to the numbers of various locations. You can find it by searching on the Google Play store or the iTunes store.” Another recent addition is a gluten-free pizza made with rice flour for people with special diet needs.
Pizzas range from a 12-inch junior-sized to an 18” large specialty pizzas including Husson’s “Meat Monster” (pepperoni, sausage, ham, ground beef, and bacon) and The Buffalo Chicken (topped with a lime hot sauce and blue cheese crumbles.) Sandwiches include pizza bread, a meatball sub, and a BLT submarine. Among the various salads are the anipasta salad, a grilled chicken salad, and a ham and cheese salad.
Husson’s is located at 335 Hal Greer Blvd., on the corner of 4th Avenue. It is open from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and from 10 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday. Cash and all major credit cards are accepted.
There are discounts for groups such as churches and schools. Delivery is also available within a 5-mile range of the store. For orders, carry-out or more information, call 304-781-2488. There is a minimum order of $12 on all orders.
