Applications being accepted for concert solo competition
HUNTINGTON -- Applications are now being accepted for the annual Young People's Concert solo competition.
The Woman's Club of Huntington, in cooperation with Marshall University, Marshall University School of Music and Theatre, and the Cabell County Board of Education is sponsoring the 54th concerto auditions for West Virginia and the Tri-State students in 7th through 12 grades.
The auditions will take place at 1:30 p.m. Jan 11, 2015 in Smith Music Hall, on the Marshall campus. Applications can be obtained from Patricia Walker, 131 Wood Lomond Way, Huntington, WV 25705, by calling 304-633-4305, or by emailing email@example.com. Applications must be received by Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, along with a $20 application fee.
A memorized instrumental or vocal composition of 12 minutes or less with orchestral parts available is required. The winner will receive $150 and perform with the Marshall University Symphony in the 54th Young People's Concert. The concert is for all Cabell County and Wayne County 5th grade students, private schools and home schooled 5th grade students during Music In Our School's Month. The concert will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 5, 2015 and will be at the historic Keith Albee Performing Arts Center in downtown Huntington.
The Family Concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2015 in Smith Music Hall. There is no admission charge, and everyone is welcome.
