Memorial scholarship open to high school seniors
ASHLAND -- High school seniors from four eastern Kentucky schools are eligible for the Leon Tackett Memorial Scholarship, which offers a one-time gift of $500 to help with tuition, books, fees or other school-related expenses.
The scholarship is in honor of Leon Tackett, founder and past president of People Helping People.
Seniors from Boyd County, East Carter, West Carter and Greenup County high schools are eligible to apply for the program, and one scholarship will be awarded to a senior at each school.
To be eligible, students must be graduating seniors with a GPA of 2.0 or higher. Applicants must show financial need and cannot be related to anyone affiliated with People Helping People Inc.
Scholarship applications are available in the guidance counselors' offices at each school, and they must be completed and returned to the counselors by April 15.
Recipients will be notified in May.
