Oct. 28, 2012 @ 12:43 PM

HUNTINGTON —  Made in Appalachia (MiAppa) will host the Grand Opening and reception of their newest addition to the MiAppa Family, the MiAppa Artisan Place (MAP). It is located within the historic Frederick Hotel Building, 948 4th Ave. The reception will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31. The Made in Appalachia gallery, is still located across from the Keith-Albee Performing Arts Center at 926 4th Ave.

MiAppa doesn’t just offer its members retail outlets from which to sell their work. It is a program dedicated to elevating art and artist throughout the entire Appalachian region. Members enjoy educational opportunities, marketing assistance, funding opportunities, increased web presence, networking and a host of other benefits. Beginning and established artists/artisans have a place with a MiAppa Artisan Place.

MiAppa shops/galleries are nonprofit. Member artists and artisans sell commission free. What you pay goes directly to the artist. When you buy from a MiAppa Artisan Place, you are supporting local artists, and they can offer you truly unique, beautiful work at amazingly affordable prices.

MiAppa (Made in Appalachia) is the non-profit economic development division of the Center for Appalachian Philanthropy, providing support and services to Appalachian area artists, artisans and crafters.

In addition to the downtown Huntington locations, MiAppa shops are also located at the Boneyfiddle Historic District in Portsmouth, and historic Vanceburg, Ky.
