HHS Junior ROTC cadets excel at leadership camp

HUNTINGTON -- Several student in the Junior ROTC program at Huntington High School recently completed the U.S. Army Cadet Command's Junior Cadet Leadership Camp, held at Camp Dawson in Kingwood, W.Va.

The cadets completed an obstacle course, learned how to prepare and use one- and two-rope bridges, made a stream crossing using a one-rope bridge; received marksmanship training, went through the Army leader reaction course, received water survival training, went through a orienteering course, climbed a rock wall and rappelled from a 60-foot tower.

The cadets included Ryan Adkins, Josh Chappelle, Sara Clark, Zach Holley, Ronnie Leffingwell, Casey Milby, Ian Preston, Tracey Price and Nikolas Roy.

Adkins and Leffingwell also were recognized for outstanding leadership and performance at the leader reaction course. Price was recognized for outstanding leadership and performance at both the leader reaction course and the obstacle course. Chappelle and Clark were recognized for their personal courage during the camp period. And Holley was recognized for his leadership during the camp period.
