Camden Park to feature Hot Summer Nights
HUNTINGTON -- Among its other special events and promotions, Camden Park will once again be featuring the Hot Summer Nights Concert Series.
The series will begin Thursday, July 11, and will take place Thursday and Friday nights for the next month. The Park, West Virginia's only amusement park and located at 5000 Waverly Road, will offer extended hours from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on all concert nights. Shows are at 7 and 8:30 p.m. nightly.
First up in the series will be Two Man Gentlemen Band on July 11 and 12. Blair Crimmins and the Hookers will take the stage on July 18 and 19. Woody Pines will perform on July 25 and 26. The final act will be Dustbowl Revival on Aug. 1-2.
Two Man Gentleman Band, based out of New York City, offers 1920s-style, banjo-happy, kazoo-driven songs.
Based out of Atlanta, Blair Crimmins and The Hookers perform 1920s vaudeville and ragtime jazz-juiced shows.
The Asheville, N.C.-based old-time Americana band Woody Pines, plays upbeat music from the 1920s and 1930s, a time when jazz, country blues, ragtime and string band music could all be heard in the river towns of the South. While the band keeps the energetic sounds of that time period front and center, it also brings a modern approach to its swinging jams, especially when it comes to original songs. And, the band throws some classic bluegrass and rockabilly into the mix as well.
The Dustbowl Revival is a Venice, Calif.-based collective that merges old school bluegrass, gospel, jug-band, swamp blues and the hot swing of the 1930s to form a spicy roots cocktail. Known for its inspired live sets, the Dustbowl Revival boldly brings together many styles of traditional American music.
Camden Park features more than 30 rides and attractions, including the latest, a pendulum ride called The Rattler.
The concerts are free with admission. General admission is $19.99. Season passes are $99.99. There are additional charges for parking, paddleboats and miniature golf. Group rates are available.
