Business of tourism impacts Cabell County

Did you know that the business of travel and tourism has a direct economic impact on Cabell County, and even your taxes?

For example, the West Virginia Department of Tourism, in partnership with Dean Runyon and Associates, released the following statistics for 2010.

Travel Spending in Cabell County = $133.2 million

Travel Generated Earnings = $33.9 million

Travel Generated Employment = 1,520 jobs

Local Tax Receipts = $1.626 million

State Tax Receipts = $9.1 million

Combined State and Local Receipts = $8,017,000

On average, tourists spent $165,678 / day on hotels and lodging

On average, tourists spent $66,728 / day in restaurants

On average, tourists spent $40,142 / day on shopping

Tax Relief per Capita = $85.37

Tax Relief per Household $230

In other words, each household in Cabell County would have to pay an additional $230/year in taxes if tourism spending went away.
