Healthy Lifestyles Day to be April 26
BARBOURSVILLE -- Village of Barboursville Elementary will host its fourth annual Healthy Lifestyles Day on Friday April 26, at hte school, 718 Central Ave., Barboursville.
The day is an interactive way to promote nutrition and physical fitness. This year's theme is A Healthy Community: How Can I Help? and Community Superheroes. The theme represents a focus on the students as well as parents, teachers and school staff, who are encouraged to participate in a 5k. They are also encouraged to do community projects to give back to the community.
Those participating in the 5k will run in the Bring the Girls on the Run to Cabell/Wayne Counties 5/10K on Sunday April 28, at Barboursville Park. The 5k is a fundraiser for an organization that promotes positive body images for girls 8 to 11 years old. There will also be a free kids run before the 5k.
Those participating in the Healthy Lifestyles Day include: The HIT Center; American Lung Association's Christine Compton; Cabell County EMS and Health Net; Dr. Dallas Nibert, DDS and Dr. James R. Butler, DDS ;
Tim Bender, RD of Marshall University's Food Nutrition Program; Mountain State Centers for Independent Living on disability awareness; Cabell Huntington Hoops Children's Hospital; Habitat for Humanity; yoga; zumba; Cabell Huntington Department of Health on healthy hygiene; CPR Demonstrations by St Mary's Medical Center; Smokey the Bear, Batman on the subject of anti-drugs; Captain McFinn on anti-bullying; West Virginia Power mascot Chuck the Pirate on nutrition and fitness.
