HUNTINGTON -- Have you taken a look at the furnishings available for the patio lately?
We are constantly writing and talking about bringing the indoors out but maybe it is time to talk about bringing outdoors in. The sales catalogs for patio gear are overflowing with furnishings that would work very well indoors, plus this duality seems to be a trend in the furniture market.
Young families particularly lean toward furniture that not only looks good but also will wear well. They don't want to rent expensive machines to clean the cushions, and they don't have loads of cash to devote to the decor. Most of the outdoor furniture has a timeless style that can fit into any home. If the cushions don't suit then changing them out is no big deal. Most of the big box stores carry a variety of replacement cushions in numerous colors.
The list of reasons for using outdoor furniture inside grows when considering such small but important factors as its mobility because it is typically light weight. One sage noted that the patio furniture was so easy to move that it was perfect for staging a house once a person moves out.
The days of Astroturf as the only choice for outside carpet are gone. Just have a look at the new sensational outdoor rugs on the market today. What is available is not only colorful but has beautiful designs plus it can withstand rough treatment. What a good choice for a youngster's bedroom or a playroom. These floor coverings do well with dirt, spills and water and still look great. An added advantage is that if they do get destroyed they are inexpensive enough to replace without hardship.
Furnishings include easy chairs for the patio that would work in front of the great room television. Mario Bellini has designed a contemporary chair that would have no trouble fitting into any room of the house. It is made of one piece roto molded polymer and has been recommended for homes and business' either inside or outside. The All Modern website, www.allmodern.com offers this chair for $450. Though Italian designers such as Bellini are dominating this field, there are other European designers and companies that are important as well.
Sofas and sectionals are also taking on an appearance many would be proud to display in their living room. The rattan and wicker look are in and no more so than in the outside furnishings where they can withstand the onslaughts the weather presents. It is an easy transition to open those sliding glass doors and bring them right into the indoor living space. Prices are competitive and have a range from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars.
If you need a breakfast table and chairs, many of those meant for the outside will also work in your kitchen. One could go for the glass-covered metal frame styles and side chairs that match or they could be more creative. There are a variety of table bases that are unique in their appearance such as those shaped like animals or urns. Perhaps you really do want an elephant in the room - here's your chance.
Maybe furnishing your entire house in patio furniture isn't your forte but adding a piece here and there might add variety to your abode. It is kid friendly and that is important in a young household or for a grandparent - after all if the weather can't destroy it a child might have a hard time as well. The best part of this scenario is if you get tired of it you can simply take it back outside and even Huntington's new ordinance about indoor furniture outside would not be offended.
