Fifth Third supports local schools

May. 12, 2013 @ 12:00 AM

HUNTINGTON -- Fifth Third Bank conducted a food drive to benefit food pantries located in area schools that are operated or supported by the Huntington Area Food Bank.

The donations, which also included items for backpacks, were collected during the "Feeding Our Communities" campaign between April 15 and May 3.

Gretchen Bias, Community Development Relationship Manager for Fifth Third Bank, as well as representatives from the Wayne and Huntington area banking centers, kicked off Fifth Third Day at the Huntington Area Food Bank, by presenting the food collected and funds raised to their Executive Director, Tiffany Tatum.

"Children's hunger is no joke and when the Friday school bell rings, many school children do not have access to meals," Tatum said. "We currently distribute more than 900 backpacks to students every week during the school year to ensure they have enough food to get them through the weekends."
