VISIT: It's always a joy to visit with George Morgan, retired The Herald-Dispatch employee and neighbor of my sister. In mid-August, he took pleasure in spreading the news about his grandson serving in the U.S. Army in San Diego, Calif., and awaiting another promotion. This nice gentleman also told me about his successful eye surgery and will have the other done in the near future.
LATE: My birthday card from Lillian Narcise arrived late, but I'll forgive her since it was for a good excuse. Lil, longtime friend and former The Herald-Dispatch employee, just returned from a trip to New York, which was a surprise birthday gift from her daughter, Jeannie Warden. On her way home to Huntington, she visited with another daughter, Julia Narcise-Fox, and fiance, Ted Diaz, in Woodbridge, Va. They enjoyed seeing the wonderful sights, especially the World Trade Center.

FRIEND: We come across many people in our life and some remain part of us. Such is the case with Maxine Hoke of Huntington, a special gift I was blessed with through my H-D career. There are so many things to love about her - kind nature, big heart, generous spirit, warm smile, just to name a few. Despite recuperating from a bad fall in the past year, she becomes another year younger Sunday, Sept. 1. May this special friend be blessed with a great one filled with love, happiness, good health and all that she deserves.
