51st annual Hamfest planned for Aug. 10

Aug. 04, 2013 @ 12:00 AM

HUNTINGTON -- The Tri-State Amateur Radio Association is planning its 51st annual Hamfest for8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at Christ Temple Church Life and Health Center, 2400 Johnstown Road, Huntington.

The gathering gives licensed amateur radio enthusiasts a chance to meet face to face with those that they have, possibly, only talked with over the radios they use to communicate with other amateurs.

An example of this is a group of amateurs that meet on the radio once a week in a net, known at Brothers Net. The group is comprised of amateurs that are from a number of eastern states that met last year face to face for the first time at our Hamfest.

Hamfest also offers new or used equipment or supplies, that is not readily available in the local area, from other hams or dealers. Hams will also provide information for those interested in starting the hobby.

For those that are ready to obtain an amateur radio license, FCC testing will be available. For more information on testing contact Garry Ritchie at W8OI@aol.com.

For those that would like more information about the Hamfest contact Mark Killen club president at MarkKD8QIG@gmail.com, Fred Herr at WD8AGH@gmail.com or Judy Taylor for vendor information at WD8EOP@gmail.com.
