Sep. 16, 2013 @ 11:30 PM

POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. — The historic Ohio River city of Point Pleasant is prepping for its 12th annual Mothman Festival that will take over downtown Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 21-22.

New this year is the free Mothman Ball at 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 at the State Theater as DJ Kos will be creating some late-night creep with a  live music/ sci-fi/paranormal/horror video show to accompany the music.

Be sure to head back to The State, as the historic theater will host a speaker’s smorgasbord that starts at 11 a.m. Saturday and noon Sunday, with a wide range of authors and filmmakers who’ll talk about everything from government coverups, UFOs and Bigfoot, to the Haunted Lowe Hotel, Mothman comic book, Silver Bridge disaster and Gray Barker.

There’s also lots of tours including Ghosts of Point Pleasant Walking Tours (presented by The Coffee Grinder, 217 6th St.), Bus tours of the TNT area (at the Mothman Museum), plane rides over the TNT area from the Mason County Airport (call 304-675-7765 or 740-629-3756) and of course, the highlight of the festival, the Saturday night hayrides to the TNT area. Tickets are sold at the Mothman statue on Saturday morning for the hayride (which starts at 8 p.m. at the West Virginia State Farm Museum) .
Tickets for the hayride are $5 and $3 for kids 10 and under for the hayride which goes to the eerie old TNT ammunition plant where the Mothman was most active. The hayride is designed for all ages.

Only a few tickets remain for the Mothman Museum’s guided hour and a half long TNT bus tours on Saturday that begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, and which occur at 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday. Evening slots are 5:30, 7, 8:30 and 10 p.m.

Those guided tours through Point Pleasant and up into the TNT area where Mothman was first spotted include: a complimentary welcome packet (with bumper sticker and completion certificate) as well as admission into the World's Only Mothman Museum for the entire weekend of the Festival. Guided bus tours are $19.95 and $14.95 for kids 11 and under. Call 304-812-7421.
