FEST: The first annual Bidwell King of the BBQ Challenge and Festival is from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at Kingdom Ministries, Bidwell, Ohio. The cost is $8; $3 ages 12 and younger and $30 for BBQ contest participants. Proceeds benefit AmazingGraceFaithLoveHope.org. Call 740-395-1216.

MILITARY: Air Force Airman 1st Class Trey D. Riley graduated from basic training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas. The airman, a 2012 graduate of Apalachee High School in Winder, Ga., is son of Amy Mollett of Winder and Kenneth Riley of Chesapeake, Ohio.

GRADS: Ashley Zawodniak and Brittani K. Dingess recently graduated from West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. Ashley, 1999 Cabell Midland High graduate and MU with a nursing degree in 2006, is daughter of Cathy Trador of Huntington and married to T.J. Zawodniak. The TOUCH Gold Award recipient for second and third years of medical school plans to enter an internal medicine program at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Brittani, daughter of Roger and Pamela Perkins of South Point, Ohio, and wife of Kevin Dingess, graduated from South Point High in 2004. She earned a biomedical science degree from MU in 2008 and plans to enter a pediatrics program at CAMC.

AWARD: Jodi Lynn Picklesimer, employee of Great American Realty, was the recipient of 2013 Realtor of the Year Award for the Huntington area. Daughter of Jim and Nancy Smith, Jodi is also vice president of Huntington Board of Realtors.

ANTIQUES: Pilot Club of Huntington's 61st annual Antiques Show and Sale kicks off at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, at Big Sandy Superstore Arena's Conference Center. Guests attending are treated to hors d'oeuvres, wine and other beverages, entertainment and silent auction. The grand opening cost is $25, which includes show from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25. Admission is $6. Proceeds benefit the area's worthwhile charities. 40-PLUS: A very good friend, Chris McGuffin, and wife, Marsha, have been married 40-plus years as they celebrate another anniversary Friday, Aug. 23. This Huntington couple deserves a round of applause for reaching this milestone.

SYMPATHY: Sincere condolences to the family and friends of Ardie Bell Keener, who passed away Aug. 6 at age 88. I became acquainted with this Christian lady when I attended Fifth Avenue Freewill Baptist Church and discovered she was the aunt to a former The Herald-Dispatch classified advertising employee, the late Sharon Chapman. Thoughts, prayers and memories abound in the loss of this precious loved one.

CHUCKLE: Tommy's friend had an hour-and-a-half commute to work and it got old rather quickly - the time spent stuck in traffic was sending him over the edge. Tommy was happy when his friend found a new job closer to home. "That's great," Tommy said, "What are you doing now?" Jake replied, "I'm a bus driver."
