What's going on at Beech Fork State Park this week
BARBOURSVILLE -- Here's a look at the schedule of events for Aug. 28 through Sept. 1 at Beech Fork State Park, located about 10 miles south of Huntington and Barboursville.
The state park pool is open through Labor Day.
Wednesday, Aug. 28
2 and 4 p.m. -- Corn hole and bocce ball sets at the boat docks for anyone who would like to come out. Bocce ball will start at 2 and corn hole at 4 p.m.
Thursday, Aug. 29
5 p.m. -- Meet at the dock for a paddle boat race, each boat must have someone over 16-years-old on board. There will be free ice cream for the boat that comes in first.
Friday, Aug. 30
6 p.m. -- Hay ride: Meet at the Park headquarters/ Camper's Corner for a hay ride. Everyone of all ages welcome, children must be accompanied by an adult.
Saturday, Aug. 31
1 p.m. -- Lost Trail Hike: A great hike for those looking for a workout or to get into the park flora and fauna. This trail offers great views and is very diverse in its flora. You'll have a free guide through this trail that contains many switchbacks. Meet at the Moxley Branch bathhouse, look for the naturalist in uniform with a back pack. Bring water and good footwear. This hike is about 3.5 miles.
4 to 5 p.m. -- Join the naturalist in a friendly game of cornhole or bocce ball.
6 to 9 p.m. -- Gospel sing featuring several local groups.
Sunday, Sept. 1
1 p.m. - Mary Davis Trail Hike: A hike that will challenge most hikers, and contains many side trails that have gotten people lost in the past, so take the opportunity to learn with a guide. Dress appropriately and bring plenty of water. Total trail length is about 7 miles. Bug spray and sunscreen may also make this trip more enjoyable. Meet at Moxley Branch bathhouse. Park in the hiking and fishing parking lot across from Moxley Branch.
