FAREWELL: Dr. Donna Spindel will be missed as she bid farewell to many in mid-August as she retired from Marshall University with 37 years of service, most recently dean of Graduate College. She also was associate dean and interim dean of College of Liberal Arts, faculty coordinator for online instruction and director of University Honors.

100th: Gladys Davidson, currently a resident of Colonial Health and Rehabilitation Center in Bardstown, Ky., was treated with a party celebrating her 100th birthday Aug. 29. The party attended by family was Aug. 31. The South Point, Ohio, native has one son, Jack, five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

CARNIVAL: St. Joseph Catholic School offers its ninth annual "Carnival on the Block" from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, between 13th and 14th streets of 6th Avenue. Inflatables, games, face painting, dunking booth, cake walk and more are featured. Carnival pricing includes inflatable wristbands, $10; game tickets, 50 cents each; Sandy Candy bracelets, $2; dunking booth and cake walk, $1. A craft and vendor show with Mary Kay, Scarf Ladies, Thirty-One and more is also available. Raffle tickets are sold for a variety of themed baskets. Each ticket is $1 or $5 for eight.
